Iron Line Diagnostics for the GRS 1915+105 Black Hole

چکیده
Martocchia et al. (2002, Paper I [5]) and Martocchia et al. (2003, Paper II [6]) reported the discovery of intense iron Kα fluorescent emission in two BeppoSAX observations of themicroquasar GRS 1915+105, which took place respectively on April 19-20, 1998, and April 21-22, 2000. During these observations the Fe line is broad and asymmetric, best fitted with a relativistic disc model (see e.g. [2], [8], [4] and Paper I for references on the relativistic line model). These are the only two cases, to our knowledge, in which the iron Kα line is so prominent in this source. The fact that the line is not always such strong in GRS 1915+105 observations should not surprise, since finding the line out of the thermal emission high-energy tail can be awkward in galactic Black Hole (BH) candidates, because of the high disk temperature. Nevertheless, strong, broad, possibly relativistic iron Kα lines have recently been detected in various spectra of galactic BH candidates, e.g. Cyg X-1, XTE J1650500, XTE J1550-564, V4641 Sgr, GRO J165540, XTE J2012+381, GX 339-4, XTE J1748-288, XTE J1908+094. They may help estimating the rotation parameter of the BHs hosted at the center of these sources by means of the iron Kα di-

Evidence for a Link between Fe Kα Emission Line Strength and Qpo Phase in a Black Hole
In X-ray binaries, the frequencies revealed in X-ray quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) are often interpreted as characteristic frequencies in the inner accretion disk, though the exact oscillation mechanism is unknown at present. Broadened Fe Kα lines are also excellent diagnostics of the inner accretion flow, if their broadening is indeed due to inner disk reflection. Herein, we present two c...
متن کاملThe Faint “heartbeats” of Igr J17091–3624: an Exceptional Black-hole Candidate
We report on the first 180 days of RXTE observations of the outburst of the black hole candidate IGR J17091–3624. This source exhibits a broad variety of complex light curve patterns including periods of strong flares alternating with quiet intervals. Similar patterns in the X-ray light curves have been seen in the (up to now) unique black hole system GRS 1915+105. In the context of the variabi...
متن کاملGRS 1915 + 105 : The brightest Galactic black hole
We compare the evolution of spectral shape with luminosity in GRS 1915+105 with that of ‘normal’ black holes. The pathological time variability of GRS 1915+105 does not indicate that it belongs in a different class to all the other objects. At comparable fraction of Eddington luminosity its spectra and (more importantly) time variability behaviour are similar to that seen in the ‘normal’ black ...
متن کاملISO far - IR spectroscopy of the black hole candidate GRS 1915 + 105 ?
We have observed the black hole candidate and Galactic superluminal source GRS 1915+105 with ISO LWS and SWS in March 1996 and March 1997 when the source was at fairly low X-ray and radio flux levels. If the source is associated with a dense molecular cloud, then corresponding far-IR continuum and line fluxes should be easily detectable and the data should constrain models for accretion from IS...
متن کاملInner disk oscillations
The RXTE observations of GRS 1915+105 have given a new impulse to the study of spectral and timing properties of the X-ray emission of black hole candidates. At variance with any other known source, GRS 1915+105 shows dramatic changes on time scales as short as a tenth of a second. These changes are associated to marked spectral changes which have been interpreted as changes of the observable i...
